Subject	Is it harmful to the o2 sensor if I leave it unplugged?

Message	Reason I ask is because I've been leaving it in there until I get my wiring installed for my widebands, and when I was looking at the instructions I saw that it says to NOT leave the o2 in the exhaust system unplugged as it will get damaged a lot faster when exposed to hot gases. I've been driving like this for probably 2,500 miles..
